Success is in You | Joshua

“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.” ~ Earl Nightingale

“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out.” — Robert Collier

“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it.” — Maya Angelou

Take the seven steps to success below. Success is not just fame and fortune. It is not the accolades heaped on you by others. And success is not what someone else thinks it should be for you. We all have unique talents. Success for me is using them wisely to achieve what I want to achieve. So only you can define what success means for you. And only you will know when you have achieved it. You make your life up with many successes and some failures. We don’t accomplish everything we want or try to. But a successful person learns from their mistakes and moves on.

The Cambridge dictionary defines success as “the achieving of results wanted or hoped for.” If we take this apart, we have to first be trying to achieve something and we have to know how to tell if we were successful. Now here I want to point out I am not talking about a single achievement that measures your entire life. That a single achievement determines whether you are a success or failure. You make your life up with many achievements you succeeded at and some you tried, failed, and learned from.

The Psychological views of Success.

From a psychological viewpoint, there are certain traits found in successful people. They also have certain ways of thinking according to Brad Klontz in Psychology today. He states that a key factor is being open to new experiences, open to new ideas, and a willingness to entertain the possibility that what you believe to be true may not be true. And you also need intellectual curiosity. Be open to others and learn from them.

Unfortunately, we are going through a time in our society where we don’t seem open to the ideas of others and don’t seem to accept the possibility that our truth is wrong. In order to be successful, we must open our minds, listen to others, and think for ourselves.

Joyce Matter in a HuffPost Blog says that “being successful requires us to wake up and be present in our own lives.” We have to learn to like ourselves. We can’t just be a follower. Think for yourself and follow your own path.

7 Steps to be Successful

Become conscious of why you are doing what you are doing. – Don’t just follow the mob.

Live your life intentionally. – Identify the intentions of your life and live by them.

Develop your vision.–Remember it is your vision of success for you. Not what others think it should be. If your parents want, you be a lawyer and you want to be a potter. You will only be truly successful if you follow your path.

Don’t worry about what you can’t control. – What is going on in the larger world around us may appall us. But only worry about what you can control- just yourself. Control your response to what happens.

Think about thinking. – Remember that in between the stimulus and your response is thinking time. Use it. Don’t let your emotions rule you.

Today is a new day. – each day is a new beginning. You can’t change the past. IF you have a bad day, let it go don’t let it affect your week.

You must be Authentic. – You are the only you in this world. Leverage your uniqueness and let it carry you to success.

“How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself?” Epictetus.

“We should not, like sheep, follow the herd of creatures in front of us, making our way where others go, not where we ought to go.” Seneca.
