My WEEK

Last week was a week of frustration from dealing with the results of moving from one apartment to another in the complex where I‘m living. Because I moved one of my 90-day supplies of medicine didn’t get delivered, and I ran out. So, I went to my doctor to get a one-month supply. When I went to the pharmacy, they told me my insurance wouldn’t cover it because it wasn’t time to get more. I asked how much it would be and they told me $541. Finally, with a discount coupon, I could get a week’s supply. Then I called my mail order provider and started a two-week discussion between my insurance company, doctor, and pharmacy. The result was I got the rest of the one month's supply covered by insurance and my next 90-day supply is scheduled to ship on October 10th. Still not sure I will get it before I run out. Other than that fiasco, the week was typical.

Considering Wisdom.

Life is a storm that will test you unceasingly. Don’t wait for calm waters that may not arrive. Derive purpose from resilience. Learn to sail the raging sea. The Stoic Emperor

After last week, I can resonate with the first part of this week’s wisdom saying. There is always something that comes up to test your patience and resilience. Yesterday I drove back from Albuquerque to Las Cruces after having my Global Entry interview. It took 4 minutes. The first half of the trip was one squall after another. I was continuously moving my windshield wipers from full-on to intermittent. But eventually, the squalls passed, and the regular New Mexico sunshine won.

We all deal with the unexpected regularly. As the stoic says, we must keep going and work through the squalls of life. We can’t stop and wait for the calm after the storm, we must keep moving forward until the storm passes. We must know ourselves well enough to know that this will pass.

The hardest part is believing that the storm will pass and knowing you will survive. So, it is unnecessary to stress or let the situation frustrate you, as I did last week. Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. It is the toughness to weather the storms of life no matter what we are dealt.

Another synonym I like for resilience is elasticity, which is the ability to spring back or recover from the adversity that has struck. We see the resilience in the people who live through hurricanes this time of year. Their ability to recover and spring back is impressive.

Resilience comes from within us, believing that we can weather whatever befalls us and come back stronger than before.

Questions for the week
  1. What are the storms that rock your life and beliefs?
  2. How resilient are you?
  3. How can you improve your resilience?
Activities for the week.

  1. Make a list of those things that frustrate you, like not being in control.
  2. Examine this feeling and think about how you can be more resilient in the future.
  3. Spend time reflecting on your feelings that make you less resilient.
