Our Quotes
"Control your mind or it will control you." — Paulo Coelho
“Not everybody has as much control as they might like, but everybody has a little more control than they think they do.” – Lisa Feldman Barrett

This is what it looks like on the one or two days a year it snows—wishing you a white and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
"Control your mind.” What does this mean? It means different things to different people, but in general, it means don’t imagine slights where they don’t exist. Don’t dwell on the past and waste your mental energy on those things you can’t change. And most of all, don’t think you are less important than anyone else.
I grew up when the catch phrase was “keeping up with the Joneses.” This meant that if your neighbors got a new car every two years, you had to as well to keep up. If you didn’t, you were somehow inferior. The reality that has finally sunk in as I’ve gotten older is that my worth, my happiness, and my success are not measured by external things but by how I control my mind. What the Joneses do doesn’t affect me unless my mind lets it.
Also, it is always a losing proposition to compare yourself to others. You are a unique person, one-of-a-kind. You are not better or worse than another. You are just you. Controlling your mind is the key to becoming a better you!
Our second quote shines a little reality on us. We aren’t all in perfect control of our minds yet, but we can start from where we are and improve our control until we have the control we need to be who we want to be. Where we are is more in control than we think—and working on ourselves to improve that mind control is all we need to work on. You can get to where you want to be.
The way we gain more control over our minds is through reflection: noticing where our minds are going and saying to ourselves, “I’m not going there.” We notice and control our negative thoughts through reflection and meditation.
