Without freedom of thought, there can be no such thing as wisdom – and no such thing as public liberty without freedom of speech. Benjamin Franklin

My WEEK
A busy week, but one in which I didn’t do my usual amount of writing. I traveled to Denver on Wednesday and came back Friday on Frontier airlines, the minimalist airline. You pay extra for everything bags, snacks, seats with full-sized drop-down trays, etc. But I made it safely there and back. While there, I spent two days getting up to speed for my treasurer’s position for the multi-state church organization.
|
The best part of the trip was seeing all the fall colors on the trees in Denver and making new friends.
|
Now I'm back and trying to catch up!

Considering Wisdom.
It is easy to blame "them." It is hard to confront "me." The easy path is the road to ruin. The hard approach is the way to growth. @TheStoicEmperor
|
The famous blame phrase we learned and used as children is still with us. "It's not my fault." Whatever happens or our situation, we often use the phrase to make ourselves feel better. But we would feel better about ourselves if we owned our part in what happened and moved on with our lives.
|
The big mystery about life is not when we will die but how we will live during our time here on earth. It is hard to live without occasionally playing the blame game, but it is emotionally healthier, in the long run, to accept responsibility and move on. So how do we live responsibly?
|
|
Living Responsibly means accepting that you can create your own life and not just react to it. You appreciate that things happen for you and not to you.
|
Living responsibility allows you to choose how to respond to life's challenges. You move into the driver's seat of your life's journey.
|
- You create your own life through your decisions and how you live.
- You choose how to respond to life's challenges. When life kicks you in the teeth, you rant, rave, and blame others. For example, why did joe get promoted instead of me? This was my problem, and I had to own it. I didn't get promoted because I stayed in the same position rather than being willing to try some other position. Of course, hindsight is always perfect.
- Use your time wisely. This is a mouthful, and sometimes I did, and other times I lost sight of what was the most important, my family. We all make decisions about how we will live; this is just a reminder to do it thoughtfully and wisely.
- Always remember what is important to you. Is it family, buying new toys and playing on the lake, or simply giving back to your community? The tension between these and other things is always there; only you can decide what to do today.
- When do I blame others instead of taking responsibility?
- How can I change my thinking to accept and realize my responsibility?
- What are the most essential things in my life? Do I make consistent decisions with this in mind?
- How do things that are out of your control affect your blaming?
- Keep notes of each time you fall into blame mode.
- Consider during your reflection time how you could have changed each situation.
